This was a difficult novel to rate, and also a difficult one to review. I’m a fan of Christina Lauren, but this one didn’t live up to the unhoneymooners for me. Mainly because I just never grew to like holland. She says she desperately wants to stand on her own two feet and not have everyone think she relies on her family connection at work, but she calls in sick often and never seems sorry for it.

I adored Calvin’s character so much that the lack of balance threw me. How could he be so wonderfully written and holland not be? I also hated the toxic female friendship that was thrown in. It seemed so unnecessary, and I’m tired of seeing these sorts of friendships in women’s fiction.

But there were some great laugh out loud moments and the plot was wonderful. I just wish it had had a different female leading lady.
