Ahn Nhi - a physician's assistant who is affectionately called Annie by her friends and family - is tired of being the "wife-in-training", always the bridesmaid but never the bride. After her most recent breakup, she's decided it's time to relocate and ends up in the charmingly named Rome, Rhode Island, determined to move on with her life and to finally figure out who she is and where she belongs in this world. But the surprise return of the homeowner whose house she's renting has her reeling... Emmitt, a world-traveling photographer recovering from an explosion that left him seriously wounded, just wants to catch some R&R in his own home and then get back to work. What he didn't expect was a cute roommate who is trying her hardest to get him to leave. He also didn't expect to like her so much...

Annie and Emmitt have an amazing amount of chemistry, and both are incredibly likeable on their own -- even Emmitt, who is a self-proclaimed "romantically CHOOSY" lothario. The writing at the beginning of the book is a little inconsisten and superficial at times, but once readers get into the deep thoughts and emotions of these two characters they will be utterly charmed. Each character has several layers for readers to explore, and each layer is honestly better than the next. On the surface, this is a great beach read, but it's much more than just that: it's a testament to single parenthood, self-discovery, and vulnerability.
