Ah, I don’t even know where to start with this. I was so stoked with what I read in the first glimpse on Bookish First - it really hooked me in. I loved the snark between the two MCs, and was excited to see where it was going to go, as well as where the MMC’s relationship with his daughter would go. However, I won this book in 2020, right as all the crap was hitting the fan. It was hard for me to get into reading much of anything. Between that and the delays with printing and shipping, by the time the book arrived, it was really out of my wheelhouse of what I would want to read at that time. After a little while, I decided to give it a try again. I found the second (and third) time trying to read this, I really wasn’t able to connect with the characters like I did the first time when I was able to read the first couple chapters on Bookish First. I decided to DNF the book and gave it to one of my local Little Free Libraries.
I hope my take doesn’t deter people from reading this - if it sounds like something you might like, I’d give it a whirl. Just make sure that whirl doesn’t happen during the beginning of a 2+ year pandemic.
