I want to start by saying that historical fiction has never been my thing. In the beginning I believed that maybe this would change that. Although I haven’t changed my mind I was surprised I was able to finish the book without taking a month long break in between. I am really disappointed that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Do not get me wrong I do not regret reading it what do ever. I would recommend this to anyone that is interested in historical fiction or anyone that is looking into the historical fiction genre.

This book can be interpreted as a Romeo and Juliet adaptation minus the extremely tragic ending. The story follows an Muslim man named Rasheed who falls in love with a Jewish women named Natalia. After she suddenly disappears Rasheed and his twin sister are chased out of town. After a jump to the future they are reunited. This story goes over many important topics including race and religion.
