Where's the Plot?

Chapter one was fast moving, so fast that I thought by the end of the story we'll be into what the great grandkids are doing. Chapter two I absolutely hated. Without giving it away, it is about a priest educating a fellow student about sex with visuals--yuck! Chapter Three slowed down and we were able to learn about Rasheed and Rasheeda.

Apparently the author is obsessed with sex. I found that was the odd motivation of the story. Even though there is some correspondence of news articles that get Rasheed into hot water--no fault of his own--it is not enough of a plot. It is too choppy/scattered/disjoined, basically not put together well enough to follow easily. I had to reread parts just to try and understand what the author was saying politically.

There is a big boo boo in chapter 25, yes it involves sex (what doesn't in this book). In the second paragraph on page 168, Omar and Rasheed's names are intermixed (by mistake I hope--or this story really got weird).

I found that I didn't care about any of the characters--not a one--which is sad. Personally, I will not recommend this book by Wagih Abu-Rish. Yes, you can tell that this is his first book.
