This book is such a powerful and timely read. With everything going on in the world and the conflict between Israel and Palestine that has been going on for years, I find it really powerful to read literature from members of those communities. It is heart-wrenching and humanizing to read normal stories about family life and romantic relationships are shaped by conflict. And, how even when everything seems stacked against true love, these conflicts are often so much larger than individuals, who can find a way to meet across lines. Set in the 1940s, this book shows how far back the tension between Arabs and Jews has existed and how "the thin line separating people because of their differences is powerless against the strength of family, love, and loyalty." This is a Romeo and Juliet story, a mystery, and a powerful read that I would recommend to anyone.
