We begin this story in 1920 with an introduction to the love story between Amina and Kareem. Chapter one lets us meet their twins, Rasheed and Rasheeda. I’m curious if it’s common in their country to give children such similar names. It was interesting but also odd as I read this story. As we continue to turn the pages we learn much more about the tight connection these siblings have and how they change and mature through the years. All the events that will shape and challenge them. This novel has an interesting setting and I enjoyed learning more about Palestine and Lebanon. I could feel the tension as I turned the pages. The author did a great job creating a picture in my mind but the story did move slow in some areas.The characters were interesting and the love story between Rasheed and Natalia was sweet. I liked the strong female characters and the bond of a family.
