I am so frustrated by this book. I absolutely love the premise, but i don’t think it was executed very well. The magical realism and the intertwining storylines were fun and interesting. But everything got super bogged down in the middle. I kept waiting for people to come into their power and had to wait way too long to gain any satisfaction, only to have the climax of the book fizzle out almost before it began. Given the timelines of the storylines, i had big expectations about certain things happening, but i was not even close. I have no idea why the story was set up that way without playing with that aspect. (i hate trying to discuss without spoiling!)
I felt like this author was really good at creating distinct characters and weaving them together. But my expectations were too high for where the story would go. It reads like the author just kept writing and writing and then realized she couldn’t make the book 1000 pages long and just chopped it off. I would have much preferred the 1000 page version of this book!
