There were parts of this book that were really strong and drew me into the story and then there were parts that felt kind of tacked on. I think Remembrance would have been just fine with sticking to the past moments. Gaelle and her story seemed like a different book. They were interesting, no doubt about that, but they just did not fit in with the majority of the book that was in the past. I think a sequel to this book could be written about Gaelle and what happens with her and Josiah in the present. I preferred reading about Abigail and Margot and Winter and the town of Remembrance that they created and were a part of for a time.
The magic parts were pretty cool and I liked their addition to what was a good historical fiction story. I enjoyed this book and so it was a pretty good debut.
