Mixed Feelings

I have some mixed feelings about this book. It was a long, slow read for me. The preview had me hooked, but the story started dragging a bit for me around part three. However, I felt like it picked back up again in part four.

Gaelle is the first character to be introduced, and the first couple of chapters had enough detail about her to draw me in... however, it seemed like her character was completely lost as I read further, and by the end I wasn't really sure what the point of her character was at all. In my opinion, she could have been left out entirely, or there should have been a few more details revealing how and why she was connected to the other characters and what would become of that connection. I get that the author wanted to connect the past to the present, but for what reason? What was the significance? Why should I as the reader care about this? The ending seemed somewhat abrupt and left me with a ton of unanswered questions.

While I did enjoy the storyline in and of itself, I feel like there were certain aspects that weren't explained fully, which caused some confusion for me and made it hard for me to stay focused and interested. I found myself going back a few times to reread certain parts and make sure I didn't miss any details.
