A riveting historical novel. This novel takes you through the lives of several women. Flipping between the past and present. Beginning in 1791, the story start with the family in Haiti and travels to New Orleans and Ohio. A gripping tale of the treatment of Black Americans and slavery over a two century period.The story was well written and kept me engaged. It did start out a little slow, but once I got invested in it I could not put it down.
A great book for anyone who likes to read about slavery, underground railroad, and magical/mystical stories. Although this isn't my favorite genre, I really enjoyed this novel. I think this would be excellent as a movie. Look forward to see what Rita Wood will have in store for us in the future.
