I was so excited to have received this book in my Once Upon a Book Club Box. I devoured the book in two days. This book takes place in three different time lines. All at points in history and I love how they all come together and connect. We start off with Gaelle, who has lost most of her family in the Haiti earth quake. She is employed in a nursing home and has a connection with one of the patients who doesn't speak.
Then we see Margot whose story takes place in the past in New Orleans at the height of plaques and other health issues.
Lastly, we go back even further in history and meet Abigail who is a house slave in Haite and then arrives in New Orleans .
All three women possess a special almost supernatural talent. All three women are strong, and independent. The book dealt a lot with slavery and how it truly was (and how it is sort of different then what was portrayed in some of the movies).
I love how all three stories come together and recommend this book to everyone!
