"Remembrance," was one of the best historical fiction books I've ever read. Rita Woods introduces the reader to four main characters; Gaelle, Winter, Margot, and Mother Abigail, who all have supernatural powers and the ability to connect with the spirits of their dead Haitian ancestors.

“Remembrance” opens in the present day, with Gaelle, a young Haitian refugee, who works as a nurse’s aide in the USA. She takes care of an elderly woman whose identity is unknown for years until one day she gets her first visitor.

This multi-generational (1791-2020) saga takes the reader through the trials of The Underground Railroad and the lasting impacts of slavery. The characters were well developed and the plot left you on the edge of your seat. This debut novel by Rita Woods was fascinating and left me wanting more.
