I love novels that are more historical fiction, but it has to be done right. The cover was intriguing and I looked forward to reading this work set in different time eras. This is more of a historical fiction work mixed with magical/alternate fiction. It had a great foundation where you felt and related to the main characters. I especially loved Margot and I hurt and felt for her pain. The premise, characters, plot and the back and forth between time periods and 4 different women’s lives pulled me in. Where it did not do justice was in the actual word choices. For such a strong and powerful feeling novel, I expected the wording to be more powerful, more enticing, more dramatic. I have never been a fan of fantasy/magical realism/alternate fantasy type of books unless it is done seamlessly. It was a good read, with a great emotional pull, but it fell flat in that realism and depth for me.
