I actually got this book from a Once Upon a Book Club box! I didn't think I would like it; it's not really my type of book at all. I did end up liking it a decent amount though. The book follows a couple different storylines/times. One of them is present day and features Gaelle, who is a worker at a nursing home. Another follows Margot and Veronique, slaves in New Orleans. They are dealing with plagues and fevers, and end up leaving their main house to go to their country house, to try to stay healthy. It works...mostly. And Abigail is a Haitian slave. I have to say, while I liked two of the storylines and how they connected, I thought Gaelle's was mostly a space filler. There just wasn't enough storyline for her to be totally necessary. But otherwise, it was a pretty decent story!
