This book is told through multiple perspectives, which I liked. In the main perspective that is revealed in the first look, a slave girl lives with her younger sister and her grandmother, who speaks to spirits. Based on the description of the book I wasn't expecting this at all but the first look pulled me in and I am curious about what's to come. I want to read more because there are three separate periods of time that are covered in the book and all three seem to have a very interesting story to tell.
