This was a really interesting First Impression. It started in the present with Gaelle, who works in some kind of care facility, and a strange connection with one of her patients. Then it switches back to 1857 Louisiana where Margot lives as a slave on a plantation with her sister and grandmother. The grandmother can talk to spirits and has premonitions while Margot has her own unique powers. I love historical fiction and magical realism and this book seems like the perfect blend of those 2 genres.
