Warning: one of the main plot lines could be a big trigger or deal breaker for some readers (the main character, Ted, was accused of assaulting a young girl, and this book goes into the mind of an actual offender, and his details of his history are really disturbing). In general, if an episode of Law and Order SVU squick you out, skip this one.
For those who read the first book in the series, Crimson Lake, Redemption Point is an even more intense and well paced ride. There's a new police officer in town who is more accepting of their partnership and investigating, and works closely with them as they are all trying to find out who shot a pair of bar employees and why. Meanwhile, the stakes have been raised for Ted to prove his innocence, and there is a whole whirlwind of action surrounding that.
While overall I think the pacing of this book was better than Crimson Lake, it was still surprising how much the author packed into the last 50-75 pages! It would work ok as a standalone, but I think readers of Crimson Lake will be better prepared for this one.
