This is the second book in the Crimson Lake series. What is different about this book is that both private investigators have colored pasts that involve jail.Ted Conkaffey was accused for a violent rape of a young girl. He's always claimed innocence and was released without a trial. He moved to Crimson Lake because it was far from Sydney and he hoped to start his life over. Working with Amanda Pharrell as private investigators has helped with that. There is now a group that believes in Ted's innocence. Then Dale Bingley the father of the girl Ted's accused of harming shows up at his house. With this going on in the background, there is also a double homicide at a local dive bar that Ted and Amanda are trying to solve. I've enjoyed both of the books in the series and can't wait for the third.
