Ted Conkaffey, wrongly accused of molesting and leaving for dead, Claire Bingley, may have been freed for lack of evidence (never mind the fact he didn't do it), but he has lost all that he loved (his wife and newborn baby, his job as a cop) anyway. In an attempt to distance himself from the hostile stares and fearing for his life, Ted finds an isolated cabin on the edge of croc infested Crimson Lake. His face is too familiar after all of the publicity however and Claire's father, Dale, manages to find him. But Dale is not entirely convinced that Ted IS the perpetrator and tasks Ted with helping him find the real one, or risk being killed by Dale anyway. Ted's "partner", convicted killer Amanda Pharrell, a wisp of a woman, covered in tattoos and croc scars continues to work with Ted as they solve local crimes. When a young man and woman are killed at the run-down Barking Frog Inn, Ted has to balance both that investigation and his own before Dale's patience runs thin and Ted's time runs out.
