I felt like I'd read it before...

I was disappointed by this one... The excerpt is not from the beginning of the book - and I didn't think that it was representative of the pacing, tone or feel of the book. It felt like a quick, herky-jerky (in a good way) ride to figure out Red's past/secrets. The actual book felt like a slower-moving romance with some secrets/action sequences...

I quite enjoyed the excerpt and was intrigued by it - as by the blurb. But when I started reading, I rather quickly felt like I was reading a different book than I'd signed up for, and on that I'd read before to boot. Actually, to be more accurate, like I was reading a book that was an amalgamation of several I'd read before. Not in a plagiarism way, don't misunderstand - but in a "been there, done that" way, which is perhaps only my issue because I've read a LOT of thrillers/secret-backstory books of this type recently. The writing is fine - there's nothing wrong here, it just didn't feel highly original or deliver what I expected based on the chosen blurb.
