The Past meets the present!
In this part of the book we meet Tristan's only friend Matteus. Tristan has brought Isobel with him to Matteus's house so they can talk, and he can figure out how she fits in his past. She was once a part of his life-which he knows nothing about.
Tristan has lived with no memory of his former self for years and the only thing he does is live in the moment and carry out orders to kill. He is now an assassin.
When Matteus asks Tristan who Isobel is, he says 'no one of importance' who he can't remember. Matteus does not believe that Isobel is nothing of importance to Tristan. Tristan does admit that Isobel is the one person who can give him answers about his past. He tells Matteus “She recognizes me. She knows me.”
Recognizing that Tristan is in fact torn about Isobel, he is quick to tell his friend to go be with her and find out about his life-before now!
