3.5 stars for the Jamaican-British woman named Queenie and her journey on her way to find herself, professionally, internally and sexually.
Queenie is an interesting look at how cultural perspectives can impact the way we view ourselves, establish our self esteem and shape our relationships with others. Queenie has been likened to Bridget Jones, a comparison I think makes this subject seem lighter than the book actually is. Following along with Queenie and her self discovery is an enlightening experience for the reader. It surprises me that this is a debut novel as it feels very well fleshed out by Candace Carty-Williams and I certainly look forward to seeing what Carty-Williams comes up with next.
