I fell in love with Queenie from the get go- her story is one of her heart break and love and friendship and family and it is a must read! Queenie’s life is a bit of a mess, but how she navigates it and survives is what I loved about this novel. We need more characters like Queenie- an educated Caribbean young woman, who is living in London with her conservative and religious grandparents. Delicately and not so delicately attempting to live her own best life. Even her friends and the subplots were well developed and layered with the themes of standing up for yourself, trusting your own power, and believing in yourself. Every emotion is felt in this novel- you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be bloody pissed, and you’ll cheer with joy!
