"Look at all of those people who love you. You are worthy of love, and they prove that. They'll always be there for you and, like they have been when you needed it most."

Awww Queenie, what do I say about you? This story was nostalgic, humourous, tragic, raw, and honest. We follow Queenie's downward spiral after her break-up with her long time boyfriend. This includes engaging in lots of casual sex (unprotected ???), putting her job at risk, and generally not taking care of herself.
Throw in encounters with racism, sexism and fetishism and you have Queenie's life.

She has a lot to deal with, and most of it stems with unresolved trauma from her childhood. Once she reaches rock bottom, she gets a wake up call to how far her life has strayed from where she wants it to be. This affords Queenie the opportunity to go to therapy, and it is here that she confronts the trauma from her past and how it has affected her life. This confrontation leads to understanding and healing within Queenie, but also in her family. Specifically her relationship with her mother.

This story was a joy to read. I loved all the elements of Jamaican culture and family incorporated into the story (nostalgic). And I also appreciated the friendship portrayals as well (especially Kyazike).
Get your hands on this story if you can.
