Not quite Bridget Jones

I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book. I've heard the comparisons to Bridget Jones, but I didn't get that. Queenie is a mid-20s girl struggling with a lot that life has handed her. She has a fractured relationship with her mom, dealt with an abusive relationship with her step-dad, no relationship with her real dad, and trouble forming and staying in relationships with men.

She deals with this in not-so-healthy ways, and while I understand why she did, I wish the book had focused a little more on her recovery and understanding why she did some of the things she did.

The panic attacks/anxiety didn't really shine through until about halfway or 2/3 through the book. Having this be a part of the earlier section would have fit better. Also, the first third of the book mentions her OCD regarding cleanliness... but somehow that doesn't come up when she has sex on a bathroom floor?

I liked the friends, the text conversations, and the social media aspect as it was relevant and real. However, I think some more consistent character development would have bumped up this star rating for me.
