Queenie has made a mess of her life and she cannot figure out how to get back on track. Making poor decisions, risky ones that could impact her health, Queenie finally reaches the breaking point. Will the young woman discover all that she has to live for or will her issues bring Queenie down?

Queenie received so many strong reviews that I was excited to see what the fuss was about. Although the concept is very current, especially regarding the issues faced by people of different ethnic groups, the story never came together in a meaningful way for me. Queenie has issues that stem from her childhood, leading to poor decision making and promiscuous behavior. It was pretty obvious the direction the plot was taking, which was not necessarily good. Queenie's attitude towards others, before she reaches her breaking point, did not endear me to her character. Overall, the book was pretty repetitive, as Queenie makes the same decisions time and time again. Although I did like the ending, it was not enough to elevate the novel for me.
