Interesting coming of age
This book was very intriguing. It pulls you into Queenie’s world with her friends. I loved all their characters. She had these friends who were perfect oppositions and I found they balanced the book really well. Also I loved their eating conversations that the author added. It gave it a modern spin.
I got really annoyed with Queenie at times though, and the middle of the book slowed down. I get that she was exploring and having a hard time but she kept intentionally at times digging herself into a hole!
There was a lot of meaningful conversation about anxiety, tough families, and being a black women. I thought the messages were fairly well crafted and the writing was beautiful! Definitely not your every day coming of age story, but one worth reading no doubt.
