I absolutely love this book. 4 stars absolutely deserved. This book is a must read. Queenie is a twenty something young adult battling racism, insecurities, low self esteem and so many unaddressed mental health needs. This book touched on such important themes and topics, especially the reality of oppression in women of color to this current day. I loved how the author touches on micro-aggressions in even her closest friends and boyfriend at times. This novel also touches on culture and different cultural views on mental health, trauma, etc; showing that different cultural views sometimes make it hard to access what you need because there is stigma or lack of understanding associated with doing so. What I appreciated the most is that this book doesn’t necessarily wrap up the ending in a nice bow with happily ever after. It is realistic and it is exactly the ending Queenie needed. Queenie is such a complex and lovable character, and she will stick with me for a long time after reading her story.
