Readers who go into Queenie expecting it to be as fluffy as the Bridget Jones's Diary comparison in the description may lead you to believe will be surprised- hopefully, pleasantly. Queenie takes the light-hearted expected tropes of the "women's fiction" genre (a cringey name for it, I know) and gives them a really thoughtful spin. Queenie experiences daily racism- both overt and more casual, from coworkers and strangers and even, perhaps particularly, from the partners she's choosing. She's dealing with the common issues of identifying self and relationships in her twenties, but there's the added edge of mental health (and the stigma around seeking help).
Queenie was a fantastic read, and interesting story. Lots to think about and engage with in this book.
