Though I do enjoy a good adult fiction novel, I have to admit, I have a very specific type that I like to read. This book checked none of those boxes, but nonetheless, after seeing a good review of it from a trusted reviewer of mine, I decided to pick it up. I’m glad I got out of my comfort zone.
Though I didn’t love this book - mostly because I think it was so out of my comfort zone - I did really enjoy it. I’m a black teenage girl, and reading about a black woman dealing with dating while also struggling with mental illness was great to read about. I’m unsure about the idea of dating as an adult, especially as a black woman, and reading about it in a book was a great way to understand some experiences.
I thought the cast of characters was great, and the humor was on point. I felt for Queenie so much. If you’re a fan of the TV show Insecure, you’ll enjoy this!
