I read an excerpt of Queenie on Bookish First, and I read the full book thanks to a review copy from NetGalley. Queenie is a gripping character from the start. The reader gets a sense early on that there's something in her past that's leading to some impulsive life choices. This book tackles some tough topics - racism, abuse/neglect, mental health, sexual harassment, etc. - through Queenie's story. She's a likable character, and I found myself feeling sad for her during her dark moments and cheering her on to build a good life for herself. I enjoyed the representation of the importance of Queenie's friendships throughout the book. I did find the pacing a inconsistent at times. Sometimes I couldn't put it down, and other times I felt it was dragging a bit. But, I enjoyed it overall.
