A well written book about a young black woman's trials with mental illness, drama, and choices

I listened to the audio CD version of Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams read by Shvorne Marks. It was an easy book to follow and enjoy. There was a lot of drama, humor and real-life situations that kept me engaged and wanting to hear more. I empathized with the central character, Queenie, even though my life bears no resemblance to hers in any way. However, even though it was a long time ago, I do remember the impressionable years of being 20 something years old. In terms of relating to the trials of being a black woman, I can only imagine some of the stigmas that went along with that unique status. As a whole, I enjoyed listening to Queenie's story and how she dealt with her mental health issues and began to respect and like herself again for the first time in a very long time. There were times when I laughed out loud. The dialogue was genuine and authentic. The old saying that ...good friends and family are so important...was extremely evident in Queenie's road to recovery. I enjoyed listening to Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams and recommend it.
