Queenie spoke to me so deeply as someone who is just graduated and is trying to find her way in the world. As a character was deeply flawed in a way that felt so real and resonant. Her struggles throughout the book were at times hard to read about but felt so real and visceral because of that. It was such a interesting look into the way parts of London are being gentrified and the communities that established these areas are being forced out. The exploration of her culture and the way that she struggled to connect to it was a great view into the immigrant experience in England. The end of the book felt hopeful in a way that I really didn’t expect but felt very earned after what we had seen queenie go through.
