To summarize the book, 25-year-old Queenie is kind of a mess. The beginning of the book is a little bit all over the place, mainly going into detail about Queenie’s promiscuity. As the book continues, the reader gets to see Queenie evolve as well as a look into mental health and the importance of therapy. There were things I appreciated about this book. The mental health and therapy representation, the mistreatment and sexualization of women, and the black lives matter representation. I appreciated getting to see those topics addressed – especially from the perspective of a female black author in order to broaden my own understand of the racism that is prevalent in our world. But despite those important topics, the overall story wasn’t for me. I didn’t like to read about the sex and promiscuity – but I do think this book could really speak to other young women.
