This memoir is the story of the author dealing with his feelings of not fitting in as a gay black man, feelings I surmise he drowns in alcohol since the synopsis mentions addiction. You could feel his pain as he tried so hard to do what he was supposed to - be good at basketball, date a woman, and so much more - but he just wasn't capable.
