Wow, I've never read a memoir like this before.

I can't even imagine how difficult it must be to grow up as a gay Black boy, and to face constant bullying and ostracism for that. As much as the author tried to fit in, it was obvious early on that he didn't, and even in adulthood, hadn't reached a level of self-acceptance.

The story was equal parts heartbreaking and cringe-worthy, but through it all, the author managed to stay honest with the reader, if not with people he interacted with or even himself in the moment. I'm curious to see more of his journey, and to watch him reach a place where he can accept himself for who he is, and to even learn how to love himself as he is, rather than try to change himself to try to fit someone else's ideals.
