I've skimmed some other first impressions by readers who say "this just isn't their thing" or they "couldn't relate." Those are precisely some of the many reasons I can't wait to read this memoir. How many gay, black men write about their experiences in America? Broome's writing is strong and his honesty is compelling, and I look forward to reading his story.
