J.B. (Jabari) Williamson, Trey Jackson, and Ramon Zambrano are all students at the prestigious Urban Promise Prep School. The school is known for preparing male students for college through strict discipline. All three boys have altercations with the principal and founder of the school, Kenneth Moore, the day he is murdered. All three boys are suspects and had opportunity to kill Moore. We learn about what happened the before the murder and the day of the murder from each boy's perspective and about each boy's home life and challenges. J.B. lives with his single mother who is a nurse. Trey lives with his uncle because his mother is addicted to drugs. Ramon lives with his grandmother and dreams of opening a restaurant. Each boy knows that he did not kill Principal Moore and wants to clear his name. They gradually come together with respective friends and family to investigate the murder. Who killed Principal Moore and why?
