I want to start this off with saying a big thank you to Bookish First and to author Nick Brooks for sending me a finished hardcover copy of this book, Promise Boys. I was instantly intruiged and hooked when I heard this "The Hate U Give meets One of Us Is Lying in Nick Brooks's Promise Boys, a trailblazing, blockbuster YA mystery about three teen boys of color who must investigate their principal’s murder to clear their own names—for fans of Jason Reynolds, Angie Thomas, and Karen McManus." I love the representation and issues faced in books such as The Hate U Give, as well as I love the thrill and mystery of books and authors such as One of Us Is Lying by Karen McManus - so I knew this book was for me! Then I looked at the stunning cover artwork, and I was drawn in by the comparisons to The Hate U Give and to Ace of Spades - two major black inspired novels that cover some deep and amazing things. This book was no different!
