This book was way more than I expected and absolutely delightful. At first glance, I expected this to be about current male MUAs like James Charles and maybe delving into David Bowie, but Pretty Boys goes all the way back to 50,000 BCE! (I didn't know about that cosmetics find!)
Well researched and beautifully illustrated, Pretty Boys is more than a surface-level look at men in fashion through the ages, but how makeup is used to show status, the beauty regimens of men throughout history with tutorials to replicate for yourself, and how beauty ideals/regimens have changed. It reads like a fun sociology textbook, and I am here for it.
