This book surprised in many ways. I knew it was going to discuss certain topics like sexualizing girls and bullying. What I did not expect however was for it to be so great in discussing these topics in ways that at some points were super in your face sure but also had a great meaning to all of the conversations and characters. I loved the way that the main characters desire to be needed in a way that wasn’t at all physical in many ways but that it didn’t shame the desire to be physical in any way. I feel that the trials of being a teenage girl are represented super well in this book and I could relate a lot to some of the characters. Some of the representation in this book did feel somewhat forced though and though it wasn’t a super big issue it was still noticeable to me at least. Certain topics could have and probably should have been expanded on more for them to be really understood instead of feeling like they were put there as a way to develop characters. The author did have good writing though it isn’t my personal favorite.
