I know nothing about wrestling, but I love YA sports books, so I was excited to read the rest of PRACTICE GIRL after checking out the First Look from Bookish First.

THE DUFF meets MY EYES ARE UP HERE meets Laurie Elizabeth Flynn’s FIRSTS in this sex-positive contemporary YA—and I loved it!

I flew through this novel so quickly as the voice is so strong and the emotions Jo is facing so real. It was so easy to root for Jo as she proved she was worthy of being on the wrestling team and of love to all the boys (and most importantly to herself).

I especially loved how she reconnected with her old best friend and other girls after writing them off in the beginning. Her relationship with her guy best friend is complicated and messy but it felt real and the story ended it on a hopeful note.

As for the love interest, I loved how he treated Jo and made her feel special after so many awful boys using her. He was sweet (but I do wish we got a little bit more from the last chapter).

Jo also has a complicated relationship with her parents, but I loved how both of them realized they needed to do better as parents.

Thank you Bookish First and Penguin Teen for sending me a free review copy!
