Love it!
Oh how I loved this book- it gave me all the feels. It’s clearly a YA book, so if you don’t care for this genre, you’ll want to skip it, but if you’re like me and love it, then you’ll be pleased to read this one! The first-person narration employed by the author is particularly powerful in this instance. This is a book about a sweet and smart teenage girl, Jo, who is looking for love. She’s so relatable. She finds out that the boys see her as a “practice girl” (a term I actually wasn’t familiar with before) and not someone worthy of a commitment and love. Honestly, when Jo finds out how she is perceived it’s truly heartbreaking. The author does such a good job with the emotions of this, and also with showing the difference between how girls and boys are treated and society’s attitudes about sex. I appreciated that Jo was shown to grow and change as the book went on and she was shown to come into her own, as she reclaimed her sexuality and decided she was going to make different decisions that served her better. The reader really roots for Jo along her journey and is richly rewarded.
