First of all, thank you to Bookishfirst and Penguin Random House for sending me an arc of this book and letting me review it.
I absolutely loved this book. I think this book represented a high school pretty realistically; there were some parts that were a bit over the top, but nothing too bad. I really like the main character Jo because she was flawed, but still likable. I was a little bit irritated because she was acting like a pick-me girl for a lot of the book, but I think she realized that and tried to fix it. In the beginning of the book, she starts out with no girl friends because she thinks they are drama, but she later realizes the girls aren’t as bad as she thinks and boys can kind of suck.
It was really heartbreaking to see her used just for her body, because I can relate a lot to that, even if it’s not for the same reason. I love that this book dealt with how boys treat girls nowadays because it is a major problem. I think it’s really important to talk about because so many girls are just told that it’s cool when you get attention from boys even if it’s bad attention.
It’s not ok to sexually harass someone or even just manipulate them into thinking you like them because you want to sleep with them. I loved that’s the author focused on this because it’s not talked about enough and it needs to be.
I also really liked the aspect of wrestling. I never really knew anything about wrestling and this taught me a lot about the sport and high school wrestling in general. I definitely wouldn’t ever wrestle for a sport, but I still think it’s really cool.
This book was a little bit confusing when it came to the Romance part of it, and at first I didn’t like it. But at the end it all turned out pretty good. I’m going to round up to a five on Goodreads but in real life I would say 4.5 because I was annoyed with Jo for being a pick-me girl for a large portion of the book.
