This novel is a beautifully written coming-of-age story about 16-year old Tessa, a teen grappling with her own identity and trying to navigate the complexities of growing up. I loved how the author handled sensitive topics such as mental health, sexuality, and gender identity with compassion and understanding, as well as the necessary level of exploration to help mold character development.
The writing style is poetic and lyrical, with vivid character descriptions that help shape the complex emotions experienced by the characters. Tessa's journey is both inspiring and heart wrenching; however overall it is beautiful and thought provoking. Which is my favorite thing to read - something that makes me think and contemplate.
