Estelle Laure's Practice Girl was an empowering book about Jo, a high school student who learns she is referred to as a "Practice Girl" that boys use for her body and then discard. At first Jo doesn't have many gal friends and is mostly just interacting with the boys who use her and we watch her self esteem take a nosedive. But then, as she herself joins the wrestling team, she discovers things about herself and finds out more about how to be more than just a "Practice Girl" and her self esteem rises as she begins to outshine the boys on their own turf.
She even realizes she was being a bit hypocritical for judging some of the other girls, despite not wanting to be judged herself, and becomes friends with her female classmates.
