Thank you to the publisher and BookishFirst for this book in exchange for an honest review!

Practice Girl by Estelle Laure is a YA rom-com with an important feminist message. The story revolves around Jo, who has been friends and more than friends with several boys on the wrestling team. As the manage, she's gotten to know them very well, but none of them have committed to being her boyfriend. One night, she hears them call her a "practice girl," meaning that she is going enough o "practice" with, but not be an actual girlfriend. Will she accept this label or will she fight back?
.

Here is a romantic excerpt from Chapter 1:

"“Frosted Flakes or Cocoa Puffs?” Ty asks, opening an extremely organized cupboard in his massive kitchen.
“Uh,” I say. I’m not hungry, but Ty seems to assume our appetites
match. I am used to this type of assumption. It’s the price of having a
bunch of guy friends.
“We also have some muesli. My mom says it’s healthy, but I think it
tastes like ass. I don’t need pumpkin seeds in my breakfast, you know?”
I giggle. To my horror, it echoes off the quartz countertops."

Overall, Practice Girl is a feel-good YA rom-com that will appeal to fans of Moxie or The Duff. One highlight of this book is how it has an important message for young girls about valuing one's own self-worth. It's important that Jo doesn't just accept the label of "practice girl" and realizes that she's worth more. I took off 2 stars, because I found most of the plot to be boring and unforgettable. If you're intrigued by the excerpt above, or if you're a fan of YA rom-coms in general, you can check out this book, which is available now.
