Jo Beckett at her most comfortable when she is just “one of the guys” as the team manager of the wrestling team thather Dad used to coach before he died. But what she doesn’t know is that the guys (who she thought of as her closest friends), really regard her as their “practice girl,” someone who is good enough to have sex with, but not good enough to be a girlfriend to any of them. Her oldest, and very best friend, Sam, who she has always trusted, shocks her with acknowledging her status, and from there, the story really takes off as she copes with her feelings of betrayal and worthlessness.
