On the surface, Picture Us in the Light seems like a normal coming of age story. But asyou read you realize it is also about depression, suicide, young love, illegal immigrants and the secrets parents hide from their children. I loved how tenderly the love story was written. It was simply beautiful. I was cheering for Danny every step of his journey. The conversations about depression and suicide were also handled so purposefully. At no point this book feel morbid or sad. Just thoughtful. Even the ending was great. Because you cannot always have the perfect happy ending. You need the realistic ending. The ending where is everyone is finding their way to their own happy ending. Really a joy to read
